Video laparoscopy
There is a steady increase in patients with renal failure due to high calcium in the groundwater and the pesticides used for agriculture farms. There are thousands of patients with renal failure, who are mainly in low to middle-income families. The renal dialysis units are in Jaffna and Vavuniya. It is a huge burden & difficulty for the patients to travel to these hospitals from Kilinochi or Mullaithevu. And they must travel at least 3 times a week.
AMAF is currently funding for a new dialysis unit in Kilinochi Hospital. This will give opportunity and convenience for the local patients to get adequate treatment, rather than traveling to Jaffna or Vacuniya. The hospital staffs are very supportive of this project. The estimated cost of this project is SL Rs. 10.0 million.

Orthopaedic equipment for Kilinochi Hospital
The Killinochi Hospital recently opened an Orthopedic department following the appointment of an orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Sutharshan. AMAF with the help of Rotary Club jointly funded orthopaedic surgical equipment to the value of approximately $200,000. The new Orthopaedic unit will provide valuable service to the people in the Vanni region and the victims of motor vehicle accidents.
Patients who needed to travel to the Jaffna or Vavuniya hospitals for orthopaedic consultation and management, now have access to the same service locally.

Projects Implemented In 2018/2019
INCINERATOR PURCHASE FOR MAHILADITHEEVU HOSPITAL
As per the World Health Organisation, 15% of waste generated by healthcare activities is “hazardous material that may be infectious, chemical or radioactive”. Hospitals commonly use medical incinerators to dispose of this waste safely. Mahiladitheevu Divisional Hospital generates about 10-15kg of infectious and chemical wastes. AMAF funded the purchase and installation of an advanced gasified incinerator unit that uses minimal fuel, which is now in regular use at Mahiladitheevu Divisional Hospital.
