Renal Dialysis Unit in Kilinochi

There is a steady increase in patients with renal failure due to high calcium in the groundwater and the pesticides used for agriculture farms. There are thousands of patients with renal failure, who are mainly in low to middle-income families. The renal dialysis units are in Jaffna and Vavuniya. It is a huge burden & difficulty for the patients to travel to these hospitals from Kilinochi or Mullaithevu. And they must travel at least 3 times a week.

AMAF is currently funding for a new dialysis unit in Kilinochi Hospital. This will give opportunity and convenience for the local patients to get adequate treatment, rather than traveling to Jaffna or Vacuniya. The hospital staffs are very supportive of this project. The estimated cost of this project is SL Rs. 10.0 million.

Continuing COVID Projects

COVID 19 is a Pandemic, severely affected people in Sri Lanka. The hospitals in Sri Lanka stretched with thousands of COVID patients. The health system in Sri Lanka is coping very badly with serious shortfalls of breathing equipment & oxygen.

AMAF continues its financial support to North & East of Sri Lanka since early last year. AMAF has donated PPE (N95 Masks, Full body Gown), BiPAP, CPAP machines, Highflow Oxygen therapy, multipara Monitors, 4 ICU Ventilators, transport Ventilator, Covid 19 diagnostic equipment and kits, Pulse Oximeters &, etc. This has been possible as a Joint project with Rotary Club in Sydney and Sri Lanka.

With the huge need for all the above, AMAF assesses the situation in the North and East to supply the PPE, medical equipment on the need basis. Therefore, we need your financial support to help the needy people in the North and East of Sri Lanka.

As per the World Health Organisation, 15% of waste generated by healthcare activities is “hazardous material that may be infectious, chemical or radioactive”. Hospitals commonly use medical incinerators to dispose of this waste safely.
